Ανθρώπινο Κράμα / Anthropino Krama / (Human Alloy)

Music and Lyrics*: Yannis Fyssas
*Greek lyrics Inspired by several online, print & radio interviews of George Dalaras (2020/2021) and the 1983 Poem by Manolis Anagnostakis: Fovamai / Μανώλης Αναγνωστάκης: Φοβάμαι

TRANSLATION:

The state of affairs is getting under my skin
Surrounded by Europe but everything is unclear
If numbers surpass human value
We might consider reversing the charges

I don't cling to strictly confined thought
Time's slow erosion brings ideas to fray
Quietly I pursue what others have not
To fill my own voids, my own way

We are but a human alloy of contradictions
Amidst the haze that shrouds our daily view
We are only human, full of certitude and chaos
A mix of beauty and rust, old and new

Terrified of fellow citizens, compliant for 7 years*1
In town squares, one fine July morning*2
Chanting and waving flags, "Give the junta back to us"
This year was even scarier, than the last

We are but a human alloy of contradictions
Amidst the haze that shrouds our daily view
We are only human, full of certitude and chaos
A mix of beauty and rust, old and new

The state of affairs is still getting under my skin

*1 This alludes to the 7 years Greece was in a dictatorship/military coup (Junta) and some folks pretended everything was fine (due to their own benefit from the junta - this is usually the same people that vote white nationalist / far right)
After the junta fell, some of these went on the streets to denounce the junta when there was no danger of the Junta killing/torturing them, but during the dictatorship, they played it "safe" by not stirring the pot. There are thousands points of reference of brutal torture and killings by the Junta at this time. Many books have been published, films, documetaries and interviews have exposed how the Junta disposed of opponents or artists at the time.

*2 July 1974 was when the Junta fell
